Source:A Dictionary- with a look at current affairs. |
"If you refer to current affairs, you are referring to political events and problems in society which are discussed in newspapers, and on television and radio.
I am ill-informed on current affairs."
From Collins Dictionary
When I'm talking about current affairs, I'm not talking about current events, government, public policy, and politics. Not who's the latest hot celebrity and who they are sleeping with, or what drug rehab they're staying at, or what's their latest arrest and what precinct or jail they're currently being held at. This is not about what's called reality TV or celebrity gossip, but important news that's going on in America and around the world.
The reason why I'm interested in current and public affairs, because I find it fascinating for one, but we all have a stake in what government is supposed to be doing for us or what's currently doing to us, because we all have to pay for it one way or another, even if we don't earn enough money to qualify for the Federal income tax. And for that reason alone every other taxpayer should be interested in what their government is doing as well, because they have to pay for it.
