If President Hugo Chavez was a Democratic Socialist, he wouldn't have any real issues with a free independent private media. Doesn't mean there wouldn't be any state-run media, but by en-large the media would be privately controlled to hold public officials accountable. 

But you have to know that one of President Chavez's biggest political hero's is former President Fidel Chavez of the Communist Republic of Cuba. So we're not talking about a Social Democrat or Democratic Socialist, but someone with Far-Left authoritarian leanings like Fidel. Perhaps not a hard-core Communist, since Venezuela still somewhat has democratic multi-party elections there and there is a Center-Right liberal democratic opposition there. 

Any Communist in their right mind would have outlawed any political opposition and certainly any private media. But what looks like is going on in Venezuela is that they don't like what the Chavez Administration under the Socialist Party there and what they're doing even if they're not pure Communists and that they want a change there. And to have more freedom and ability to live their own lives.

I don't want to see President Obama become more socialist ( let's say ) in a second term: meaning he'll look to expand the Federal Government and create all new social insurances and so-forth. 

President Obama is going to have to concentrate on the economy starting off and hopefully he'll get something like the American Jobs Act passed through the next Congress, that's built around infrastructure investment, moving towards energy independence, through investing in all of our natural resources, more tax relief for the middle class, to encourage more consumer spending.

These are things that we need to do as a country, create economic and job growth, so we can move towards real deficit reduction. I believe President Obama understands these things and will be concentrating on them. 

Barack Obama is not George McGovern (or Bernie Sanders, of today) he's not looking to create a new New Deal, he didn't run for President to expand the Federal Government, but to meet the challenges of the country and they mostly has something to do with the economy. I don't believe he even believes in economic socialism, but is more of a Teddy Roosevelt, perhaps even Jack Kennedy Progressive, when it comes to the economy.

"More than 15,000 heckling Canadian fans boo their team while watching game 4 at Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum. Canada plays poorly for most of the game, with 38 of 41 shots on goal stopped by Soviet goalie sensation Vladislav Tretiak. The game ends with a score of 5-3 for the Soviets and home-team fans boo Canada right off the ice. Assistant captain Phil Esposito is not taking this lightly. He skates back onto the rink, sopping with sweat, and scolds Canada.

"I'm really disappointed [with the fans]. I am completely disappointed. I cannot believe it," he says with a hangdog face. "Some of our guys are really, really down in the dumps. We know, we're trying, I mean, hell, we're doing the best we can."

1972 wasn't the heart of the Cold War between America and Russia, with President Richard Nixon working to normalize relations between the United States and Soviet Union, but there was still that national and military rivalry between the Super Powers to the point that every time both countries got a chance to compete against each other, it was a big deal. 

Canada, wasn't a superpower, but they were on our side along with the European Union and wanted to show that they could not only compete with Russia, but beat them as well.

This is one of the reasons why I love C-SPAN, because they don't just cover Democrats and Republicans, but all of the political party's that have a voice and message. Now, they obviously cover the Democrats and Republicans more, because those are the party's that are always in power. At least until a third-party emerges and knocks them out-of-power.

The main problem with a two-party System in a country, thats as politically as diverse as ours and is as big as ours, both in land and in population, is that Democrats and Republicans aren't simply big enough to speak to the concerns and politics of the whole country. 

40% of the country is not a Democrat or a Republican and are either not registered or a member of a third-party that better represents their political beliefs. Whether they are more to the right or left than Democrats and Republicans or are in the center. And they are the largest voting block in the United States. And I believe C-SPAN recognizes this and has decided that other voices should be represented, especially in a liberal democracy, thats as big and diverse as ours.

What C-SPAN did back in 1992 and I believe they still do, at least to a certain extent today, is something that I wish other networks (broadcast, cable or whatever) if these third party's, even if a third party is fairly strong, for a third party, like the Reform Party back in 1996, aren't able to get into the presidential debates, these party's should comes together and form third-party debates between the Socialists, Libertarians and Independents and so-forth and give them about the same amount of time as the major party presidential debates. 

If third-party debates did well, you see if C-SPAN, PBS, maybe CNN, picks them up or tries to get them up. And you would see our entire political spectrum in this country represented. That goes from Far-Left, to the Far-Right and everything else in between. Americans are looking for other voices in American politics and a system like this would give it to them.
